Money Guide: Zombies & Gems

Money runs everything in Roll An Army — rolls, luck, damage, slots, rebirths. Gems run the other half: the gem shop, event crates and the gamepass discount on all of it. This guide maps every income source, then gives the upgrade order that compounds fastest.

The five money sources

  1. Zombie kills — the base engine. Your placed units kill the wave; every kill pays cash. Raising your zombie tier makes each kill pay more, as long as your army can still clear the wave quickly.
  2. Damage-to-money upgrades — the shop line that raises how much of your units’ damage converts into cash. Buy it alongside damage itself; they multiply each other.
  3. Plot producers (farms) — buy these early. They tick passively while your army fights and while you are away.
  4. Offline earnings — official, headline feature: “You earn Money Offline”. Your base keeps producing between sessions, so there is never a reason to stay logged in doing nothing.
  5. The Wheel — occasional cash prizes (one recorded spin paid 50K). Minor, but free.

The zombie tier decision

The zombie tier upgrade is a lever, not a ladder to max blindly. Higher tiers pay more per kill but survive longer against a weak army. The working rule:

  • If your units kill the wave before it reaches your base, raise the tier.
  • If zombies are leaking through or kills visibly slow, drop back down and invest in damage first.

Footage also shows zombie-tier upgrade rolls appearing in the roll system itself (a “zombie tier upgrade” pull), so watch your rolls for free tier progress.

The Gems economy

Gems are the second currency, and the official description makes them a headline: “Kill zombies for Gems”. Verified uses so far:

  • The gem shop — buys crate lines (the underwater line among them) and event-adjacent goods. The VIP gamepass’s official description confirms the shop exists and prices a 20% discount against it.
  • Event crates — the skeleton event shop sells its crates for skull currency, with Gems appearing in crate loot tables and as fallback pulls.
  • Wheel prizes — one recorded spin landed 30 Gems.

Gems survive rebirths, which makes them the one currency worth banking — spend money freely before a reset, but Gems carry across.

The upgrade order that compounds

  1. Money upgrades, always first.
  2. Farms, until passive income covers a meaningful share of a roll session.
  3. Roll count, so each session converts more income into units.
  4. Damage + damage-money together, just enough to hold your current zombie tier comfortably.
  5. Zombie tier, stepwise, whenever kills stay fast.
  6. Luck in bursts (ideally during server x2/x3 events) — see the rolling and luck guide.

When the next upgrade price outpaces your income, that is the rebirth signal: reset, keep your units and Gems, and let the permanent boost repay everything.

Gamepass note

Two paid boosts touch this economy directly: 2x Money (299 Robux) and VIP (139 Robux, +50% money and 20% off the gem shop). Whether either is worth it — and the cheaper 9 Robux Auto Collect — is broken down in the gamepasses guide.
