Mutations Guide: DPS Boosts
Mutations are Roll An Army’s item layer: percentage boosts you attach to units to raise their damage output. They are the main reason event crates are worth opening even after you own every event unit. This guide collects everything verified on camera so far — and flags clearly what is still unconfirmed, because the game does not explain mutations in-game very loudly.
What a mutation does
A mutation is a modifier item themed on a unit family (skeleton mutations are the ones currently in the spotlight). Equipped onto one of your placed units, it raises that unit’s damage by a percentage. Recorded multipliers so far:
- 225% — seen on a Skeleton Ninja
- 200% — seen on a Skeleton Sniper and on generic mutation drops
- 175% (1.75x) — seen on a lower-tier drop used as a stopgap
Honesty note: these come from one creator’s recorded session. The full multiplier table, and the exact formula behind the percentages, are not officially documented anywhere — we will upgrade this section the moment a reliable source lands.
Where mutations drop
The confirmed source is the event shop’s crate system. During the skeleton event, Skeleton Crates roll a mixed loot table: Gems, skull currency, skeleton units and skeleton mutations. You buy crates with skulls earned from the event, and the mutation is one of the possible results.
The space crate family (Alien/Space Crates) also rolls units with percentage labels — Alien Soldier shows 120% — which suggests crate units can arrive pre-boosted, though whether that is the same mutation system or a separate “percent stat” is unconfirmed.
How to prioritize your mutations
- Best mutation goes on your best unit — with slot space tight, a 200%+ boost belongs on your highest-DPS placed unit, not on a filler.
- Skeleton units are the current carriers — Skeleton Sniper and Skeleton Ninja have the highest recorded rolls; if you run them, chase their family mutations first.
- Stopgaps still count — a 1.75x on a mid unit beats nothing on it. Equip what you have and upgrade later.
- Stack the event while it runs — crates are the only verified source, so mutation progress is effectively event-bound. The updates page tracks when the current shop rotates.
Open questions we are tracking
- Whether mutations can be removed or swapped once equipped.
- Whether percentages stack additively or multiplicatively with unit upgrade levels.
- Whether the Weather Events window (through September 10) adds new mutation families.
If you are grinding the event for mutations, pair this with the rolling and luck guide — crate luck and roll luck stack into the same pull sessions.
